She kicked me in the head...

She kicked me in the head and now I have brain damage.

Hippocampus (2017) Andy Ash

The Hippocampus is the structure in the brain where we form our memories. I'm told it is an important area as an early storage place for long-term memory, and it is involved in the transition of long-term memory to even more enduring permanent memory. Messing with your head, damaging the memories, wiping away moments, is severely debilitating, making it hard to comprehend the events that have essentially defined your existence. Being kicked in the head is an act of violence to your very being, a deliberate manoeuvre to disorientate and control; a way to rewrite the narrative. You can't always see the damage or put your hand inside and stick a plaster on the problem.
