'Who's been sleeping in my bed?' FaB23
Fringe Arts Bath festival 2023 is officially open! Doris the seagull is now on show at the 44AD gallery space, Abbey Street BA1 1NN, on the corner opposite the Abbey square. It is open 11am to 6pm 27th May to 11th June.
The show has been curated by Bella Kerr & Amanda Roderick. 'Who's been sleeping in my bed?' is an exploration of a theme both familiar but resonant: our entanglement and coexistence with animals. The exhibition encompasses - through a range of media from video to installation - the sentimental, funny, domestic, decorative and uncanny. Interspecies relationships and issues of human responsibility are examined, alongside dark interpretations of myths, representations drawn form folk tales, nursery rhymes and the everyday.
These reflections, from the twenty-two artists in this show, make us consider our relations with animals within social and cultural history and other contexts including commodity, exploitation and human/animal inter reliance.
I am showing an installation consisting of:
4 x colour photographs A3 from the 'Doris #isolationartviews',
a colour digital film, 11.55 mins on a loop '24 hours: Doris #isolationartviews'
and a new sculpture, cast stone plaster, life size feet casts 'Doris and me' which completes the installation.
