NSEAD London and South East Art & Design Teachers Network
Focus : Working in a gallery in response to an exhibition
Saturday 18th July 2026 : The V&A South Kensington, Learning Centre and The National Art Library
Programme: Working in a gallery in response to an exhibition - Making a personal selection or collection of art/craft/design works from a collection, for both discussion and creative action.
NB: Please bring a sketchbook and drawing media for working in the exhibition (only pencil type media is permitted in the galleries).
10:30 – Meet at V&A Courtyard - Enter the gallery via Exhibition Road/Learning Centre Entrance
10:30 – 10:45: Gather and enter the national Art Library.
10:45: AA & GG Welcome and focus for the day. Introduction and welcome from David Houston (team Leader – Schools and Colleges).
11:00 -12:30 Led by Jenny Dunkin and Sally Jones (Museum Educators/teachers) – Welcome to the National Art Library and introduction to the museum.
Followed by group visits to the Exhibition - Rising Voices : Contemporary Art from Asia, Asia and the Pacific.
12:30 – Group 1 (first two slots) Rising Voices exhibition
12:30 – Group 2 – Lunch
13:15 – Group 1 – Lunch
13:15 – Group 2 (second two slots) Rising Voices exhibition
14:00 – 15:40 – Afternoon sessions led by AA and GG:
Discussions will focus on the process of visiting exhibitions, object- based handling, preparing students beforehand, making media choices to capture information, recording and documenting in a busy exhibition/display, making choices and selections with a view to what students might do with this information when back in school.
Discussion and sharing of best practice. What did we learn from the morning workshops and what can we share
15:40 – 16:00 – Update on the Curriculum Review. What do we know - subject changes?
Update on the Autumn Event in October at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
