The spring event of the NSEAD London & SE Art & Design Teachers Network meeting was at the South London Gallery on Saturday 23rd May.
We were fortunate to have Niall Deegan, Teacher at Tuke School and the present Art Fund Teacher Fellow at South London Gallery, to lead the morning workshop exploring inclusive, sensory and accessible approaches to art and learning.


Programme: SEND in Art & Design - working with artists and galleries
11:00 – Meet at SLG and enter the gallery via South London Louie Café.
▪ 11:00 – 12:30 Session 1: AA & GG Welcome and set out the focus for the day.
o Participation and engagement led by Niall Deegan, Teacher at Tuke School and Art Fund Teacher Fellow at South London Gallery, working in residence from September 2025 – July 2026. Niall will lead the morning workshop exploring inclusive, sensory and accessible approaches to art and learning.
o Niall will talk through the sensory inclusion resources he has produced for the current exhibitions at SLG and his work during the Teacher Fellowship.
o Followed by an open discussion on developing SEND practice and engagement for learners in mainstream art and design studios.
12:30 – Break for lunch

▪ 1:30 – Session 2 : A SEND Conversation: Sharing experiences and best practice building on the learning from Session 1.
o 2:45 – Concluding remarks and Information update from Andy Ash, NSEAD President
o Followed by an opportunity to view the main exhibitions at SLG.
