Celebrating World Earth Day: Art, Action, and Community

Every year on 22 April, World Earth Day reminds us that protecting our planet starts with people-powered action. In 2026, the focus is on civic mobilization, community innovation, and the idea that real environmental change happens when local people come together to care for the places they love. Around the world, Earth Day continues to unite communities through education, restoration, and creativity.

The Tide & Place Exhibition

Here on the south coast, one inspiring way to celebrate is through the Tide & Place exhibition at WRAP. Supported by Sussex Bay, this exhibition brings together artists whose work reflects our connection to the sea, landscape, and the changing shoreline.

Sussex Bay is helping restore and reconnect nature along the Sussex coastline. They champion healthier seas, thriving habitats, and resilient coastal communities. It’s a powerful reminder that environmental action isn’t only about global policy; it is also about local stewardship, creativity, and care.

Engaging with Nature

This Earth Day, I encourage you to celebrate by supporting artists, visiting exhibitions, walking the shoreline, and reconnecting with the natural world around you. Because when art meets action, change becomes visible.

We are looking forward to seeing you at Tide and Place, which is open on the weekend of 25th-26th of April and 2nd-3rd of May from 11 AM until 5 PM. There’s no need to pre-book your visit. Additionally, a programme of events will follow in June, celebrating this art community and our coastline—watch this space!

The Importance of Community Action

Art plays a crucial role in fostering community engagement. It allows us to express our feelings about the environment and our connection to it. By participating in local art initiatives, we can inspire others to take action.

Art can be a catalyst for change. It encourages dialogue about pressing issues such as climate change and environmental degradation. When we come together as a community, we can amplify our voices and make a significant impact.

Conclusion: A Call to Action

As we approach Earth Day, let’s remember the importance of our individual and collective actions. Each small step contributes to a larger movement. Whether it’s through art, community service, or simply enjoying nature, we can all play a part in protecting our planet.

Join us in celebrating the Tide & Place exhibition and engage with the art that reflects our environment. Together, we can create a more sustainable future.
